I have been asked to evaluate a music video for this part of my media work. I am going to analyse Broken String by James Morrison.
The video itself is basically several clips of the artist, james morrison, sat on the bed in a bedroom playing his acoustic guitar whilst singing the lyrics of his song. It also has him linking with the other artist, Nelly Furtado, through the glass and in person which shows that they have done this together and are thinking about each other.

I have chosen this music video as it is also of a simlar genre to the video I will be making. The artists are both shown in seperate rooms apparanently singing about each other in a longing way. There are items in the room that are shown to explode which is an interesting idea as its only links to the song would be the broken string part. I believe that it was used to break up the same room used for the entire video.
The Video is aimed at a generally female audience with the love based song and theme seen running through out the video itself. The age group of the audience will be from early teens to late twenties as it is quite an open song about relationships and how they develop and the bad things that can happen. The video uses lots of clips of the male artist as he is the main icon in the video shown towards his female fans as a sex symbol.
The video itself does follow conventions quite closely as it uses many things found in other videos such as the vocals of both singers and other things like james morrison playing the acoustic guitar sat on his bed. This is good for an indie/pop music video as it uses what works and can be seen as an easy way out by following the same conventions as everyone else.
Again this video also look like it is a pretty low budget production being filmed in just one room thought things that may have cost money would be the use of the explosions of the objects in the room as it must have been produced by an explosives expert so that nobody was hurt by the explosions and was more than likely filmed off of the set, again costing more money.
